Types of Home System Security
The type of home system security that works best for you depends on many factors, such as your location, type of dwelling, ownership, additional protection you need, etc.
There are two main types of home system security available in the market.
A. The Hard Wired Alarm System which is made up of the control panel, the keypad and the phone jack, the siren and of course the wires that connects the whole system.
The control panel which is safely and inaccessibly installed in your basement or ceiling also contains the back up batteries that ensures continued protection when there is a power failure.
The keypad sends the orders to the control panel. When an intruder rips the keypad from the wall, it does not disable the home system security nor does it prevent the control panel from sending the alarm signal.
The special phone jack that is usually found at the entry point of the phone line sends its signal to the monitoring center. A phone that is taken off the hook does not break the communication line between the home system security and the monitoring center.
The siren can be concealed in a place away from the control panel and the keypad to prevent other people from tampering with it.
B. All in one wireless home alarm system is a combination of the circuit board, the keypad, the siren and the back up battery into one single unit or package. It is convenient, easy to install and is cheaper. It is also vulnerable, because a burglar can easily disable the whole unit.
C. Hybrid home alarm system is a combination of the hardwired and the wireless devices. A wireless receiver connected to your control panel to communicate with your wireless devices including the door and window contacts, motion sensors, etc.), can be added to your all in one wireless home alarm system or to your hard wired alarm system.
If you are living in a high rise condo unit, in an apartment, in a town house or row house, your best option for a home system security is a wireless system or a hybrid system. If you are paying monthly rent for your dwelling you can ask your landlord for a partitioned system and split the monthly monitoring fees with him.
If you are living in a semi-detached or a detached home, a hard wired or a hybrid home system security will work best for you. You may also consider putting up a perimeter alarm system. If you own a vacation house that is only used for half of the year, your best home system security option will depend on the type of the building. You should include fire and temperature sensors and flood water sensors to your alarm system. You should also consider having an outdoor siren with strobe lights and using a cellular monitoring if your phone line is not connected for the whole year.
There are some freebies that go with these home system security including panic button for the police and the medical panic button. Be sure to ask about the freebies from the company that will install your home system security.
